The Velbon MAXi 343E Tripod was designed to meet a tough set of specifications set as a challenge by well-known American writer and photographer Herbert Keppler. Keppler challenged Velbon to create the perfect traveling tripod: a low-cost, sturdy, all-metal design, weighing less than 2 pounds, and extending from 20 inches up to 5 feet. The tripod also had to have separately extendable legs and feature both rubber-tipped feet and spikes. The result is said to have been inspired by the triunions of ancient military front-loading gun barrels. And the MAXi 343e will be found in the packs of even those photo enthusiasts who've always loathed carrying extra equipment. Because it passes muster with Herb Keppler at every point! The Velbon Maxi 343E is the ideal travel tripod: sturdy, all metal and weighing less than 1.0kg. The tripod features both rubber and spiked tipped feet with each leg extending separately for rough terrain. Triunion Shaft Legs: The legs of most tripods are joined to the head via bolts through the top of each leg, however the Maxi 343E incorporates non-piercing bolts: ie. each leg extends the entire inside length of the outer leg casing, making the tripod extremely compact when folded, yet extended the tripod measures a full 158.4cm. This unique system is called the Triunion Shaft System (TSS). Suitable for most compact digital cameras and camcorders.
